Overall of the book
Tbh, I loved this book unlike most books I read. Being told from Charlie's point of view really increased my understanding and interest to what was going on. Also, I loved learning about a (somewhat outcast's) high school life in the late 1900s. The one negative comment I would say is that it started so many new possible things that could have been written about in a continuation or sequel. The things he mentioned (such as his college life) would have been really interesting to read about for me. Overall though I really liked it!

I loved this novel as well. I like how the ending was not as predictable as most. It was nice that Sam did not end up with her disloyal ex and Charlie was okay in the end. I like how it ended happily even though the book was progressively getting more and more depressing. What bothered me what when I found out that Charlie's Aunt Helen was not as great as Charlie remembers. That creeps me out... I understand her past but for her to do that to Charlie is just.. no. The end of the novel seems to emphasize abusive relationships because of what happens to Sam and Patrick. I really feel bad for Patrick. Brad was a good guy, but under the wrong influence... yikes.
ReplyDeleteIf anything should be take from this novel it would be:
Everything happens for a reason.
I also really enjoyed the book being told by him made it more personal and wanting to get to know more about Charlie's life. Although he mentions some childhood a prequel would be interesting as well as a sequel.
