I was so surprised when I read the part about Brad's father beating him when he found out about his boyfriend. I don't know why it surprised me so much. It just seems so extreme! But this book was witten in 1999, so was that behavior like kind of typical? Or was it an extreme?
I agree! it was so extreme and surprising because I think Charlie wanted to over exaggerate how not all sexual orientations were accepted in his community and how this community was extremely conservative.
ReplyDeleteIts crazy to think that within the time we were born views on homosexuality has changed drastically. The sad part is is that to these families it wasn't extreme and sadly there are still those who are not excepting and would do the same thing.
